IBERIAN MUSIC IN THE MIDDLE AGES

The main topic of the course will be Iberian Music of the Middle Ages: 13th c. monody (Cantigas de Amigo, Cantigas de Amor by Don Dinis, Cantigas de Santa Maria), the polyphony of the Codex Calixtinus, Las Huelgas and the music of the Llibre Vermell of Montserrat.

“Awakening sleeping instruments” : Vielle Symposium

2 days of Lectures and Performances

The main focus will be bowed instruments in XIII and XIV centuries and their use in monophonic repertoires from Iberian peninsula as any related topic.

WORKSHOPS FOR ENSEMBLES

VOCAL ENSEMBLE – Giovannangelo De Gennaro

Repertoire: CODEX CALIXTINUS, the oldest polyphonic musical repertoire from the French area (mid-twelfth century). One of the most important manuscript for the study of medieval culture: it contains detailed informations on the daily life of pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela and on the cult of St. James.

With scholars and musicologists who will study the different aspects of the music of the Medieval period

Improvisation Lessons

Does improvising seem like an almost magical concept? These lessons will teach you that the idea you have is not correct.
